The Weymouth Music Boosters (WMB) raises an average of $500.00 to $600.00 per month through its recycling program. Bucky Rogers generously donates his marine shop Rogers Marina located at 1545 Commercial Street in lower Jackson Square (across from the Dunkin Donuts and the train station). Residents leave their bottles and cans during the week, and students and parents sort each
Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.
This is our most consistent fundraiser. Historically, funds were ear marked for the repair and purchase of instruments at WHS, but are now being used to cover additional expenses of the WHS chapter.
Bucky Rogers has been raising money for the Weymouth school band program and now the Weymouth Music Boosters for nearly 27 years. After joining the Band Parents Association, he worked at the concession stand at Legion Field for 11 years. In 2000, when Legion Field closed he switched to selling Christmas trees at his business property and then switched to a can and bottle recycling operation, all of the money going to the Band Parents.
The operation is raising $6,000 to $6,500 a year. Over the last 16 years, it has brought in $115,000 for band instruments, uniforms, scholarships, awards and busing to competitions.
WMB is supported in part by a grant from the Weymouth Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Additional Fundraisers: For the past three years we have had a booth at the Weymouth Pumpkin Give- A-Wey. In addition to providing information about the music programs, we've sold popcorn and hot cider. The Tri M Music National Honor Society had their own booth, where they performed and had a raffle.
Other fundraisers include meat raffles, canning, and coffee cake sales.
Where the money goes: Band camp, buses to competitions/parades, including the Weymouth Veterans and Memorial Day Parade, uniforms, repair and/or replacement of certain instruments, drinks and pizza before home games, boutonnieres for seniors and tailgate cookout before the homecoming game, senior scholarships for band and chorus members, Awards Dinner, buses to U Mass Band Day, filing fees for Districts, and other related extra curricular programs.
